Idle Idol (Diptych)

Diana Shpungin, Idle Idol (Diptych), 2022

Hand-applied graphite pencil on sea snail shells and metal, with plaster, gauze, natural seashells, metal, and glue.
32 x 32 x 19

Two gauze-and-plaster bandaged folding chairs are partially coated with graphite pencil.  One chair has natural sea snail shells ornamenting its underside with their flowing, striped patterns.  The other chair is adorned with white snail shells that have been crudely drawn on with pencil in a self-defeating attempt at replicating the patterns of the converse group of shells.
