Finis Coronot Opus
2011
one hundred seventy rubbings/drawings
84″ × 32″ × 26″
pencil and graphite on paper on wood
Finis Coronot Opus is made from a towering sculptural wood form cut into the proportions of a casket, leaning on the wall and thrust vertically into the ground, the wood is covered in hundreds of actual rubbings from Shpungins’ fathers’ headstone, each one meticulously hand cut. The “phrase” is purposely misspelled based on her fathers cryptic writings. Translated from Latin, the text reads: “the ending crowns the work”.
